LIVESTOCK owners outside Lebowakgomo are being urged to remain on high alert following a brazen overnight raid that left a 61-year-old farmer counting his heavy losses.
The victim was robbed of 27 animals worth more than R63 000 after they mysteriously vanished from his kraal at Makotse Newstands.
Police confirmed that the farmer’s shepherd had locked a total of 16 sheep and 11 goats inside the kraal on Friday, securing them for the night. The criminals struck under the cover of darkness. When the owner returned to the site at about 5,45 am on Saturday, he immediately saw that the kraal had been forced open. All 27 animals were gone.
The farmer attempted to track down his flock, searching the surrounding area without success before officially reporting the matter to the police.
A stock theft case has been opened, and police are investigating the syndicate’s movements. Officers are following up on possible leads to recover the stolen livestock and arrest the individuals responsible.
To bring the thieves to justice, police are calling on the community for help.
