METRO Police officers were attacked in Manenberg on Saturday, 20 June.
The incident happened when they responded to reports of gunfire and came under fire from suspects.
Officers returned fire and wounded two suspects. The pair later arrived at medical facilities seeking treatment and were subsequently bust.
This was one of two separate attacks on Metro Police officers over the weekend in Cape Town.
The other incident happened in Macassar on Sunday, 21 June.
The incidents were revealed by Safety and Security MMC Jean-Pierre "JP" Smith while giving an update on enforcement operations conducted over the past week.
In the Macassar incident, officers were attacked by residents while arresting a suspect who was allegedly found with drugs and a dangerous weapon.
Two officers suffered minor injuries during the incident. The suspect was later taken to Macassar cop shop.
Smith condemned the attacks and said violence against law enforcement officials has become a serious concern.
"Unfortunately, we had at least two incidents over the weekend where Metro Police officers came under attack in the execution of their duties. These incidents, on both enforcement and rescue services staff members, have sadly become all too common, but we can't allow it to go unchecked," he said.
Smith said officers put their lives on the line daily to protect residents.
"Our officers are on the frontline keeping the streets safe for all our residents. Instead, they have now become the targets," he said.
He urged residents of Atlantis and Manenberg to come forward with information that could help identify and bust those responsible.
"Violence against law enforcement cannot be justified and is an attack on the safety of our residents," said Smith.
He said the city could offer a reward for information leading to an arrest and encouraged residents to call 021 480 7700.
Despite the attacks, enforcement agencies remained busy across the city.
