TECHNICIANS are working around the clock to fix the crashed SA-SAMS system so that thousands of Gauteng pupils can finally get their school reports.
Gauteng Education MEC Lebogang Maile has apologised to stressed parents and pupils who are still waiting for their results.
A big technical glitch has hit the system schools use to capture marks, leaving many classrooms stuck without their final results.
The department revealed that the South African School Administration and Management System (SA-SAMS) crashed after its Citrix environment temporarily went offline.
Because of this, many schools simply cannot log in, capture marks, or print out report cards.
MEC Maile explained that this technical glitch is not just a Gauteng thing.
He said the problem is experienced from a national system run by the Department of Basic Education. When it blinks, provinces suffer.
"We understand the importance of report cards in tracking kids' progress and planning for the academic term ahead," said Maile.

The MEC said technicians are working around the clock to kickstart the system and get things back to normal.
He has begged parents and school staff to be patient while IT experts fix the mess, promising that report cards will be handed out as soon as the system is stable and accurate.
"We're confident that the technical teams handling the matter will restore the system soon. We appreciate the patience shown by schools, pupils and parents as this process is being resolved," added Maile.
The Gauteng Department of Education will continue to keep schools informed as progress is made.
