MASKANDI kings Mthandeni SK and Khuzani Mpungose stole the show at Mthandeni’s dancer, Tekisi Ntetha’s traditional wedding.
The grand celebration took place in Melmoth, north of KZN, on Sunday, 28 June, and it turned into an unexpected rivalry between the two music giants.
The wedding ceremony ran smoothly until the two arrived. Tekisi and Khuzani’s niece, Nomfundo Mpungose, exchanged vows before headman Nomalenje Zungu.
Shortly thereafter, Mthandeni made a dramatic entrance — flying in by helicopter and rolling up in a Ford Raptor, guarded by two mlungu bodyguards. He stole the show.
Minutes later, Khuzani arrived in his Range Rover Defender and also stole the spotlight.
Guests were divided — some cheering for Mthandeni, others for Khuzani — all excited to see their favourites in one place.
But this was no ordinary wedding. It was the wedding of the century, bringing rivals together not to perform, but celebrate a loved one.
What made it even more interesting?
Tekisi is Khuzani’s former dancer and childhood friend. He danced for Khuzani since 2011 before joining Mthandeni in 2021 — and was now marrying Khuzani’s niece.
Mthandeni SK told Daily Sun the day wasn’t about competition.
“There’s no war between me and my rival. We were not showing off. We simply wish everyone to congratulate Tekisi for having a colourful traditional wedding,” he said.

“I took Tekisi’s wedding invitation seriously. That’s why I used a chopper to attend.”
Daily Sun was unable to reach Khuzani for a comment due to the drama. However, in a previous interview he said despite Tekisi leaving him to join his rival, he’ll always be a brother to him as they grew up together from childhood.
Tekisi (32) said he still couldn’t believe the big wedding and having two Maskandi kings in one place.
“It was history for a dancer like me. I thank both Mthandeni and Khuzani for honouring my wedding,” he said.
“I’ve been in a relationship with Nomfundo since 2014.”
