THE Limpopo Artist Movement (LAM) has held a special mass prayer service for artists across the province following a series of tragic road accidents involving Lekompo musicians recently.

The gathering brought together artists, supporters and entertainment industry partners to pray for God’s protection, guidance and safety for performers who spend long hours travelling between shows.

LAM said the prayer service was prompted by the growing number of artists who have lost their lives or been involved in serious crashes while pursuing their careers.

“As LAM we decided to host a mass prayer after we lost our artists due to accidents. We also prayed for Kharishma to get a speedy recovery and for Shebe Mabena to get bail,” the organisation said.

Reverend Awedzani Nemaukwe led the prayer session, encouraging artists to put their faith in God while also taking practical steps to stay safe on the road.

“I just want to thank all the artists for coming. We believe God will protect us. We urge artists to hire drivers and limit taking too many bookings on the same night,” he said.

The prayer service also included a special moment for Lekompo star Kharishma, who was recently involved in a car accident. Although she survived the crash, fellow artists prayed for her full and speedy recovery.

The event also remembered artists who have died in road accidents over the years, including popular Lekompo singer Malome Vector, who was killed in a fatal crash in 2024 alongside fellow musician Lizwi Wokuqala and music producer Musa Damos.

Their deaths sent shockwaves through the local music industry and highlighted the dangers artists face while travelling between performances.

Artists at the gathering said the increasing number of road tragedies has left many living in fear, especially during busy performance seasons when they often travel long distances late at night.

Organisers described the prayer service as a symbol of unity, healing and hope for Limpopo’s entertainment industry.

They said they hope it will become an annual event to encourage artists to prioritise their safety while continuing to grow the province’s thriving Lekompo music scene.
