SIBUSISO Masuku (14) uses a wheelchair to move around.
With constant use, his old wheelchair became a nightmare of its own.
He outgrew it, leaving him cramped and uncomfortable.
His unemployed mum, Ntokozo Masuku, desperately wanted to buy him a new one but simply had no means.
But over the weekend, lady luck finally smiled on the family. A Good Samaritan stepped in and handed the boy a brand-new, comfortable wheelchair.
The donor, Sthembiso Nxumalo from the MK party, said he was deeply touched by Sibusiso’s condition.
“I decided to do something to change the way he is being moved around,” said Nxumalo.
“But we still appeal to medical experts to help him walk again. “
His excited mother thanked Nxumalo for putting a smile on her son’s face. “We really appreciate and this is going to make his life a little easier.
Sibusiso was a bubbly eight-year-old who loved nothing more than running around and kicking a soccer ball with his friends. But a mysterious, cruel condition stole young Sibusiso Masuku’s legs, leaving him trapped.
His gogo Ntombi Masuku told Daily Sun that Sibusiso’s nightmare started with a sharp, sudden pain in his lower back.
“He started experiencing pain in the back, just below the spine. That was the start of all our problems,” she said. Hoping for a miracle, the family rushed him to hospital.
For a while, there was a glimmer of hope. Doctors spoke of a life-changing operation that could get him back on his feet.
But weeks turned into months, and appointments turned into endless waiting.
“Each time we went there, there was promise after promise. Eventually, his mother decided to give up because nothing was coming out of it.”
Sibusiso was only in grade 2 when his world changed forever.
Now, he’s plagued by questions his family simply cannot answer. “It pains me so much that he was able to walk, and now he has to be pushed around,” his gogo said. “
He often asks me when he is going to stand on his feet and play with his friends again. It breaks my heart.
“Sibusiso was overjoyed with his new wheels, saying they are comfortable and will make it easier for his family and friends to push him around.
But the family is refusing to give up on his ultimate dream of walking again.
They believe that somewhere out there, a medical specialist has the answers they need to change his life forever.
“We are appealing to any medical experts out there to help him get back on his feet,” gogo also pleaded.
