LUCA'S World Cup dream comes true
Ten-year-old Luca Human-Marè is heading to the Fifa World Cup, and he can barely believe it.
The young South African has won a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to travel to the historic Fifa World Cup 2026, which will be hosted across Canada, Mexico and the United States from 11 June to 19 July.
Speaking to Daily Sun, Luca could hardly contain his excitement after learning he had been selected.
"I couldn't believe that I won. I was super excited when I found out. To represent my country that I love feels amazing. Meeting players on such a big international stage and walking onto a World Cup field is a dream come true. I'm proudly South African, so it's a big honour to walk out with Bafana Bafana players," he said
Perfect timing for Bafana Bafana
Luca's dream comes at the perfect time after Bafana Bafana qualified for the World Cup in October 2025, following a dramatic 3-0 victory over Rwanda.
The victory secured South Africa's first trip to the global tournament since 2010.
For Luca, football is more than just a hobby. It's a passion that has quickly become part of his identity.

Family proud of Luca's journey
His mum, Liane Marè, said she was emotional when she received the life-changing news.
"I was overwhelmed when the call came through and I was close to tears. I know how much football means to him and how hard he works. His joy is contagious," she said.
She explained that Luca's football journey began just three years ago when he was seven years old.
After watching football on television, he asked to play despite attending an Afrikaans school that doesn't offer football.
The family then enrolled him at a local club.
In 2025, he successfully trialled for the respected Stars of Africa Football Academy, where his talent continues to shine.

Inspiring other young South Africans
"Now football is part of our weekly routine. We support him at matches and training, and even kick balls around in the garden. He can play for hours. It's beautiful to see how happy the game makes him," said Liane.
Beyond the personal achievement, the proud mum believes Luca's story can inspire other young South Africans.
"It means the world to us, but I also hope his story inspires kids to be brave, follow their passions and believe that dreams are always closer than they seem if you work hard," she said.
From garden kickabouts to the world's biggest football stage, Luca's journey is only beginning, and Mzansi will be cheering him on every step of the way.
