My heart goes out to the victims of the recent floods in KZN and Eastern Cape.
I hope the social service officials can speed up the process of assisting the affected people with food and shelters.
Home Affairs must also assist the victims to get new identity documents and birth certificates.
Government’s failure to build proper roads and bridges is one of the reasons why we are in this situation.
However, there are squatter camps which are situated along the riverbanks.
It’s understandable that the demand for houses from the Department of Human Settlement is very high but it’s still not ideal to erect shacks on riverbanks.
People must build houses in proper areas.
