The South Africa Police Service has been in the spotlight and criticised by citizens and political parties for its failure to combat crime successfully.
However, the recent shoot-out between the police and criminals during the attempted cash-in-transit heist in Rosettenville, Joburg, proved that our police are well trained to respond to violent crimes.
The heist itself, however, is an indication that we are not safe in this country. How could foreign nationals team up with South African citizens and even cops to rob cash vehicles? This is a disgrace to our democracy.
I heard the police minister saying he asked one of the suspects why are they committing crime, the suspect responded by saying: "indlala" (hunger).
We must not always point fingers. Let us also appreciate and salute those who are doing good work. Thumbs up to our cops. You did a very good job.
