Our leaders are failing us - Norman Maake, Tembisa

Municipalities must work for their people and not wait for the community to stage protests before assisting them.

Municipalities must work for their people and not wait for the community to stage protests before assisting them.

Politicians must make municipalities work for the people irrespective of the party in charge or the power balance in a municipality.

They need to understand that they were voted for by the people to lead the municipalities.

The state of affairs and lack of basic service delivery in some provinces just shows that some municipalities are failing to provide services for people.

Municipal failure not only affects large businesses but also has an impact on households, small, medium and micro enterprises and other investors in the local economy.

Households directly suffer the consequences when basic service delivery is poor.

The country experienced a distinct voting anomaly in the recent local government elections as less citizens participated in the vote.

I thought the lesson shall be learnt by the municipalities. Economic growth, job creation and local economic development initiatives depend on municipal finances.

Municipalities can play a key role in South Africa's economic development, but our leaders are failing us.
