KEEP EYES WIDE OPEN- SP Moffat, Mamelodi East

In the past churches used to be real places of worship.

In the past churches used to be real places of worship.

Today's churches are no longer places of worship.

Today, many churches are operating like businesses with a sole intention of making a profit.

A church is supposed to be a place where people can turn to for spiritual calmness. For some reasons many churches today prescribe practices that make their followers feel financially oppressed.

Organised religions have little tolerance for members who don't conform to their prescribed tithings and rituals. That is why vulnerable and desperate young women often fall prey to sex pest pastors. I wonder if the pastors who establish these churches do it with the aim of healing troubled souls or exploiting them.

There is an escalating number of religious leaders who manipulate believers for their own personal gain.

Religion is becoming prevalent.

Spirituality means allowing yourself to unfold and express your heart's desire and soul purpose. People, women in particular, must never remain alone in the room with a pastor who claims to pray for them.

A so-called prayer that warrants a woman to undress is totally unacceptable. The biblical miracles no longer exist.

  • Pray alone in the comfort of your home. Consult a doctor and not church when you are ill. SP Moffat, Mamelodi East
  • Some churches could not bear the thought of worshippers not attending to hand over tithes each week. Not only do some pastors hunt women and money, they also prey on the emotional well-being of their congregants, promising salvation for mental suffering, when in fact there are other legitimate ways to achieve such relief. We must go into churches with our eyes wide open, much as Jesus did. This letter wins our R200 prize today. Call Nthabiseng at our offices to collect. - Deputy Editor
