THE Limpopo Department of Health has dismissed, as false, a viral social media video claiming that monkeys invaded a hospital ward at a facility identified as "Dennilton Hospital" in Limpopo.
This follows a widespread video showing monkeys inside a hospital ward.
Department spokesman Neil Shikwambana said the ward shown in the video is not part of Philadelphia Hospital.
According to Shikwambana, no hospital by that name exists in the province.
"The public healthcare facility serving the Dennilton area is Philadelphia Hospital, which hasn't experienced any incidents involving monkeys entering its wards," he said.

"The hospital isn't having a problem of monkeys entering its wards, and the video doesn't depict any area within the facility.
"We believe the video was taken elsewhere and falsely labelled to create an impression that it originated from Philadelphia Hospital," said Shikwambane.
He urged members of the public to verify information before sharing it online, warning that misinformation can have serious consequences.
"We urge members of the public to verify information through official sources before sharing it on social media. The spread of false information causes unnecessary public concern and undermines confidence in public institutions," he said.
