The drama unfolded a few minutes after a cash vehicle had just dropped off money meant for Sassa grant payments

SHOPPERS were left devastated after a gang of six tsotsis hit a Boxer Superstore at Acornhoek Shopping Mall in Acornhoek, Mpumalanga on Friday, 7 July.

The drama unfolded a few minutes after a cash vehicle had just dropped off money meant for Sassa grant payments.

One of the frightened shoppers said she had just arrived at the shop to receive grant money for her gogo and three kids when she suddenly spotted a Ford Ranger double cab stop outside.

"Five men wearing balaclavas jumped out of the bakkie and drew guns, leaving the driver behind. They dashed into the shop so fast and held up the security guard at gunpoint and pushed her inside.

"The fifth tsotsi stood at the shop entrance while the others shouted demanding the cash while pointing guns at the staff members and cashiers. They quickly ran out carrying the money bags and got into the bakkie idling outside. They vanished into thin air. We praying to God to save us," she said.

Another shopper said the gang threatened to blow out their brains if we screamed or alerted the cops. "They forced us to lie on the ground by the shop entrance as they forced their way into the shop. It happened very quickly," she said.

Police spokesman, Brigadier Selvy Mohlala, said the suspects are being sought by the police for business robbery. "Unknown suspects emerged from nowhere and pointed a security guard with a firearm, pushed her inside the shop to the back shelves and other suspects went to the tills. They took an undisclosed amount of cash and no shots were fired," he said.

Anyone with information that can help the police arrest the suspects can contact Lieutenant-Colonel Aaron Digoro on 082 318 9925.
