AMAPIANO star Kelvin Momo has come under fire.

This after failing to appear at two highly anticipated events, leaving fans and promoters frustrated.

The DJ, known for his soulful and private take on amapiano, was expected to perform at Marks Pub and Shisanyama in Hebron, North West, on 2 April 2026, as well as at the Mamalisa event in Polokwane.

In both instances, fans had gathered in large numbers, only to be disappointed by his absence.

Many supporters took to social media to express their dissatisfaction, with some calling his repeated no-shows unprofessional.

This is not the first time the amapiano star has missed scheduled performances, raising concerns about reliability despite his immense popularity in the South African music scene.

Kelvin Momo, born Thato Kelvin Ledwaba, rose to fame with his distinct, mellow amapiano sound and has built a loyal fan base over the years.

However, incidents like this risk damaging his reputation, especially as his career continues to grow both locally and internationally.

Following the backlash, the artist issued two separate statements explaining his absence.

In the first, regarding the Marks Pub and Shisanyama event, he said: "Kelvin Momo would like to extend his sincere apologies to all stakeholders, partners, and fans regarding his absence from the scheduled performance… Due to ongoing band rehearsals in preparation for his upcoming Kelvin Momo Live Concert, his schedule was significantly constrained. Unfortunately, this resulted in him missing the last available flight from Durban."

In a second statement addressing the Mamalisa event, he explained:

"Unfortunately, Kelvin Momo was unable to attend due to unforeseen fuel shortages… despite efforts by him and his team… they were unable to secure diesel (50ppm) in time, and ultimately had to make the difficult decision to return home."

The incidents have even drawn criticism from public figures, including radio personality Sizwe Dlomo, who warned, "Someone should warn Kelvin Momo. Some promoters don't play that. It's a very dangerous game he's playing."

As fans await accountability and consistency, many hope the artist will take steps to rebuild trust and avoid further disappointment.

Meanwhile, his one-man show at People's Park, Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban on Sunday, 5 March, was suspended due to heavy rainfall and bad weather.
